Airport  Security:

Prescription Drugs:
Keep all medicines in their original containers. If you are dependant on a particular medicine, request an additional written prescription for travel. Ask your doctors advice for over the counter motion sickness medicines that will not react adversely with your prescription.

Contacts or Glasses:
If you wear contacts or glasses try to bring along an extra pair, you do not want a vacation that is out of focus. Sunglasses are a must-have no matter where you travel.

Sunscreen:
Sunscreen products are pretty much all the same so expensive does not mean better or more effective.  Look for at least 30 SPF and if you are traveling to the Caribbean or Mexico 45 SPF is really better protection.  If you will be swimming or taking part in any water sports, get waterproof sunscreen.

Dehydration:
This is the number 1 vacation spoiler and the easiest to avoid.  Air travel is very dehydrating.  To properly hydrate your body you should have eight ounces of liquid each 1 ½ hours of your flight.   Coffee and alcohol will also contribute to dehydration.  Airlines permit you to bring your own water or sport bottle onboard, but due to security, you must purchase it after you have gone through security. Symptoms of dehydration include; dizziness, nausea, fatigue, muscle ache and flu-like feelings.

Food Service:
Most of the airlines have eliminated meal service to cut costs. Many airlines offer a meal in a bag for an additional cost. You may bring your own food from home or purchase on the way to the airport for consumption during the flight.  Restaurants in the airport tend to be more expensive than those located outside the airport.  Suggested items to bring along; fruit, energy bars or trail mix.
TRAVEL TIPS FOR CAR RENTALS:
Insurance:
Most car insurance companies have a car rental rider available for a couple of dollars a year.  Contact your insurance company to see if they offer this.  The rider may eliminate the need for the extra insurances the car rental company offers. This can mean a considerable savings for the overall price of the car rental. Using your Gold or Platinum credit card may also offer additional insurance coverage for car rentals.  Call your credit card customer service to confirm the additional coverage.
Re-Fueling:
A service the car rental companies offer is a re-fuel of your vehicle when you return the car if the gas gauge is not on full.  Read the fine print about what they are charging per gallon before signing. This amount is usually very high!
The gas prices are generally higher within a 10 mile radius of the airport.
Try to re-fuel a little further out and away from the freeway to save on that last tank.
